Course
International Powered Access Federation (IPAF) training course for managers or supervisors who need to know how to safely and effectively plan and control the use of scissor lifts, telescopic and articulating booms, vertical platforms, van mounted platforms, truck mounted platforms and telehandlers with integrated controls.
N.B: IPAF have changed the classification of their MEWP categories which are as follows: PAV, 1a, 1b, 2a, 2b, 3a, 3b, Insulated Aerial Device and Specials (read our article on category changes here)
Course objectives
This course will enable your managers and supervisors to develop their awareness of:
- Current legislation
- Different types and classifications of MEWPs
- The importance of correct machine selection
- The importance of correct PPE selection for their MEWP operator(s)
- The safe use and operation of MEWPs
- Planning and maintenance considerations
They will also be able to identify misuse and abuse of MEWPs...

Number of delegates
IPAF specifies that this course is restricted to a maximum of 10 candidates
Training methods
Lectures, video, printed course material, demonstration, practical use.
Certification
Successful delegates will receive an IPAF certificate of competency and an operators safety guide.
PPE requirements
Delegates are requested to bring their own safety footwear - any other PPE needed on the day will be provided.
Course duration
IPAF MEWP for Managers training courses are one day (typically 8.30am to 4.30pm).

We can offer a choice of well-equipped training centres throughout the UK, or, subject to suitable facilities and equipment being available, the training can be conducted on your premises.
The Work at Height Regulations, introduced in April 2005 places a clear duty on all employers to ensure that all work at height is properly planned, which includes a thorough assessment of the risks involved, and selection of suitable equipment. It also requires that anyone who plans, supervises or carries out work at height must be competent to do so.
